Haftarah: YesheYahu 54:1 - 54:10

Bereshit (Gen) 6:9-7:24

9       These are the descendants of Rest. Rest was a just man, upright among the generation of his time, and he walked with the Mighty.

10     Rest had three sons: Name, Heat and Opener.

11     Now the earth was ruined in the sight of the Mighty and was full of unjust gain.

12     The Mighty saw how decadent the earth had become, for all flesh on earth was walking toward ruination.

13     So the Mighty said to Rest, "I am going to put an end to all flesh, for the earth is filled with unjust gain because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.

14     So make yourself a vessel of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it inside and out.

15     This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high.

16     Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.

17     I, even I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything upon the land will die.

18     I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the vessel-- you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you.

19     You are to bring into the vessel two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you.

20     Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.

21     You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them."

22     Rest did everything just as the Mighty commanded him.

CHAPTER 7

1       ETERNAL then said to Rest, "Go into the vessel, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.

2       Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate,

3       and also, seven of every kind of bird, both male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth.

4       Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made."

5       And Rest did all that ETERNAL had commanded him.

6       Rest was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came upon the earth.

7       And Rest and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives entered the vessel to escape the waters of the flood.

8       Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground,

9       male and female, came to Rest and entered the vessel, just as the Mighty had commanded Rest.

10     And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.

11     In the six hundredth year of Rest's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month-- on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.

12     And the deluge fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.

13     On that very day Rest and his sons, Name, Heat and Opener, toFear with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the vessel.

14     They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings.

15     Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Rest and entered the vessel.

16     The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as the Mighty had commanded Rest. Then ETERNAL shut him in.

17     For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased the vessel was lifted high above the earth.

18     The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the vessel floated on the surface of the water.

19     The water rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.

20     The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet.

21     Every living thing that moved on the earth perished-- birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.

22     Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.

23     All that stood on the face of the earth was erased; men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Rest and those with him in the vessel were spared.

24     The waters prevailed upon the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

CHAPTER 8

1       And the Mighty remembered Rest and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the vessel, and ETERNAL sent breath over the earth and the waters receded.

2       Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed and the rain stopped falling from the sky.

3       The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had abated,

4       and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the vessel came to rest on the mountains of the ‘Inversion of the Curse’.

5       The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.

6       After forty days Rest opened the window he had made in the vessel

7       and set loose the dark one and it continued going back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth.

8       Then he sent out the effervescent one to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground.

9       But the effervescent one could find no place to set its feet because the was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Rest in the vessel. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back into the vessel.

10     He waited seven more days and again sent out the effervescent one from the vessel.

11     When the effervescent one returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Rest knew that the water had receded from the earth.

12     He waited seven more days and sent the effervescent one out again, but this time it did not return to him.

13     By the first day of the first month of Rest's six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Rest then removed the covering from the vessel and saw that the surface of the ground was dry.

14     By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry.

15     Then the Mighty said to Rest,

16     "Come out of the vessel, you and your wife and your sons and their wives.

17     Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you-- the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground, so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number upon it."

18     So Rest came out, toFear with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives.

19     All the animals and all the creatures that move along the ground and all the birds-- everything that moves on the earth, came out of the vessel, one kind after another.

20     Then Rest built an altar to ETERNAL and taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it.

21     ETERNAL smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done here.

22     "As long as the earth endures: seedtime and harvest; cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease."

CHAPTER 9

1       Then the Mighty blessed Rest and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.

2       The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands.

3       Everything that creeps and moves will be food for you, even as I give you the green plants, I give it all to you.

4       "But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.

5       And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man.

6       "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of the Mighty has the Mighty made man.

7       As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it."

8       Then the Mighty said to Rest and to his sons with him:

9       "I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you

10     and with every living creature that was with you, the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the vessel with you, every living creature on earth.

11     I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth."

12     And the Mighty said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between you and Me and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:

13     I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

14     Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,

15     I will remember My covenant between Me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.

16     Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between The Mighty and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."

17     So the Mighty said to Rest, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between Me and all life on the earth."

18     The sons of Rest who came out of the vessel were Name, Heat and Opener. (Heat was the father of Lowlander.)

19     These were the three sons of Rest and from them came the people who were scattered over the earth.

20     Rest, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard.

21     When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.

22     Heat, the father of Lowlander, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers outside.

23     But Name and Opener took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father's nakedness.

24     When Rest awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him,

25     he said, "Cursed be Lowlander! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers."

26     He also said, "Blessed be ETERNAL, the Mighty of Name! May Lowlander be the slave of Name.

27     May the Mighty extend the territory of Opener ; may Opener live in the tents of Name, and may Lowlander be his slave."

28     After the flood Rest lived 350 years.

29     Altogether, Rest lived 950 years and then he died.

CHAPTER 10

1       This is the account of Name, Heat and Opener, Rest's sons, who themselves had sons after the flood.

2       The sons of Expansion: Complete, Mighty Mountain , Midland , Ferment, Brought Forth, Drawn Out and Desire.

3       The sons of Complete: Scattered Fire, Speak Out and Break Her.

4       The sons of Expansion: Mighty of the Coming One, Yellow Jasper, the Bruiser and the Leader.

5       From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.

6       The sons of Heat: Black, Double Straits , Bow and Lowlander.

7       The sons of Black: Drink, Circle, Strike, The Mane of a Horse and Striking. The sons of The Mane of a Horse: Seven (or oath) and Low Lands.

8       Black was the father of Valiant Rebel, who grew to be a mighty warrior in the land.

9       He was a mighty hunter before ETERNAL; that is why it is said, "Like Valiant Rebel, a mighty hunter in the face of ETERNAL."

10     The first centers of his kingdom were Confusion, Lengthy, Subtle and a fortress to the god of heaven in Two Rivers.

11     From that land he went to Level Land, where he built the House of the Hellenistic god Ninus with wide streets, excitement and strength,

12     with Restraint, which is between The House of the Hellenistic god Ninus and Strength; that is the great city of excitement.

13     Double Straits was the father of the Strife, The ones afflicted by water and Flames and escape,

14     From the fortified head waters of the Nile, (from whom the Philistines descended) and the Crown.

15     Lowlander was the father of Hunter his firstborn, and of Terror,

16     Thresher, Mountaineer Bragarts, sod dwellers,

17     Villagers, Chewers, Thorns,

18     Boundless, Double Woolens and Walled City. Later the Lowlanders clans scattered

19     and the borders of Lowlander reached from Fisher toward Lodging Place as far as Prevail, and then toward Burning, Submersion, Red Clay and Gazelles, as far as the Fissure.

20     These are the sons of Heat by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.

21     Sons were also born to Name, whose older brother was Opener; Name was the ancestor of all the sons of the region beyond.

22     The sons of Name: Eternity, Level lands, Breast Curser, Strife and Exalted.

23     The sons of Exalted: Wooded, Circle, Fear and Drawn Out.

24     Breast Curser was the father of Sprout, and Sprout the father of the one from the region beyond.

25     Two sons were born to the one from the region beyond: One was named Division, because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Small.

26     Small was the father of Immeasurable, Drawn Forth, Village of Death , New Moon,

27     Noble Honor, Inundated, Palm Grove,

28     Stripped Bare, My Father is Mighty, Seven (or oath),

29     Reduced to Ashes, Circle and Desert. All these were sons of Small.

30     The region where they lived stretched from Freedom toward a Numbering, in the eastern hill country.

31     These are the sons of Name by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.

32     These are the clans of Rest's sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these, the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.

CHAPTER 11

1       Now the whole world had one border and one language.

2       As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Two Rivers and settled there.

3       They said to each other, "Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar.

4       Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."

5       But ETERNAL came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building.

6       ETERNAL said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.

7       Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."

8       So ETERNAL scattered them from there over all the earth and they stopped building the city.

9       That is why it was called Babel , because there ETERNAL confused the language of the whole world. From there ETERNAL scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

10     This is the account of Name. Two years after the flood, when Name was 100 years old, he became the father of Breast Curser.

11     And after he became the father of Breast Curser, Name lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters.

12     When Breast Curser had lived 35 years, he became the father of Sprout.

13     And after he became the father of Sprout, Breast Curser lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.

14     When Sprout had lived 30 years, he became the father of the one from the region beyond.

15     And after he became the father of the one from the region beyond, Sprout lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.

16     When the one from the region beyond had lived 34 years, he became the father of   Division.

17     And after he became the father of   Division, the one from the region beyond lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters.

18     When   Division had lived 30 years, he became the father of Friend.

19     And after he became the father of Friend,   Division lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters.

20     When Friend had lived 32 years, he became the father of Branch.

21     And after he became the father of Branch, Friend lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters.

22     When Branch had lived 30 years, he became the father of Snort.

23     And after he became the father of Snort, Branch lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters.

24     When Snort had lived 29 years, he became the father of Station.

25     And after he became the father of Station, Snort lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.

26     After Station had lived 70 years, he became the father of Exalted Father, Snort and Mountaineer.

27     This is the account of Station. Station became the father of Exalted Father, Snort and Mountaineer. And Mountaineer became the father of Covering.

28     While his father Station was still alive, Mountaineer died in Flame of the Clod Busters, in the land of his birth.

29     Exalted Father and Snort both married. The name of Exalted Father's wife was Princess, and the name of Snort's wife was Queen; she was the daughter of Mountaineer, the father of both Queen and Looker.

30     Now Princess was barren; she had no children.

31     Station took his son Exalted Father, his grandson Covering, son of Mountaineer, and his daughter-in-law Princess, the wife of his son Exalted Father, and to Fear they set out from Flame of the Clod Busters to go to Lowlander. But when they came to Mountaineer, they settled there.

32     Station lived 205 years and he died in (the land of) Mountaineer.

YesheYahu (Isa) 54:1-17

CHAPTER 54

1       "Sing, O barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband," says ETERNAL.

2       "Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.

3       For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolated cities.

4       "Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.

5       For your Maker is your husband-- ETERNAL Almighty is His name-- the Holy One of He who preservers as Mighty is your Redeemer; He is called the the Mighty of all the earth.

6       ETERNAL will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit. a wife who married young, only to be rejected," says your Mighty One.

7       "For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with deep compassion I will bring you back.

8       In a surge of anger I hid My face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you," says ETERNAL your Redeemer.

9       "To me this is like the days of Rest, when I swore that the waters of Rest would never again cover the earth. So now I have sworn not to be angry with you, never to rebuke you again.

10     Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor My covenant of peace be removed," says ETERNAL, who has compassion on you.

11     "O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted, I will build you with stones of turquoise, your foundations with sapphires.

12     I will make your battlements of rubies, your gates of fiery jewels, and all your walls of precious stones.

13     All your sons will be taught by ETERNAL and great will be your children's peace.

14     In righteousness you will be established: unjust gain will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you.

15     If anyone does attack you, it will not be My doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you.

16     "See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who has created the destroyer to work havoc;

17     no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of ETERNAL and this is their vindication from Me," declares ETERNAL.

YesheYahu (Isa) 55:1-5

CHAPTER 55

1       "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.

2       Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to Me, and eat what is good and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

3       Give ear and come to me; hear Me, that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, My faithful love promised to David.

4       See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of the peoples.

5       Surely you will summon nations you know not and nations that do not know you will hasten to you, because of ETERNAL your Mighty, the Holy One of those who persevere as Mighty, for He has endowed you with wonderful glory."
