YHWH
Will Fight For His Faithful Ones
We read the following quote: 'Not by might, nor by power, but by My
Spirit,' says YHWH. We cannot go under our own power and might or our
own determination and expect success unless YHWH has sent us and we go
in ‘HIS Time’.
What then does
He want us to just sit and rest on our own laurels and do nothing?
Remember the pillar of fire and the cloud that guided Yisrael through
the wilderness after they left Mitzrayim. When either the cloud or
pillar of fire lifted up, they were to travel and when it set down they
were to stop and rest. They were being taught about YHWH’s timing, His
authority and His providence.
ZecharYah
(Zech) 4:6
6 So He said to me, "This is the word of YHWH to Zerubbabel: 'Not
by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the Sovereign YHWH.
We read the words given to Melekh
HaDaviyd (King David):
Tehillim
(Ps) 46:1-11
1
The Mighty One is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help
in trouble.
2
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the
mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3
though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with
their surging. Selah
4
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of The Mighty
One, the set-apart place where the Most High dwells.
5
The Mighty One is within her, she will not fall; The Mighty One
will help her at break of day.
6
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; He lifts His voice, the
earth melts.
7
Sovereign YHWH is with us; the Mighty One of Ya’acov is our
fortress. Selah
8
Come and see the works of YHWH, the desolations He has brought on
the earth.
9
He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow
and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire.
10
"Be still, and know that I am The Mighty One (YHWH); I will
be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
“Be
still and know that I AM is your Mighty One and once you know that, then
you can move in His Name and according to His timing”
11
Sovereign YHWH is with us; the Mighty One of Ya’acov is our
fortress.
Divrei
Yamim Bet (2 Chr) 32:7-8
7 Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of
Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more
with us than with him:
8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is YHWH our Mighty One to
help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon
the words of Chezek’Yah king of
Judah
.
Tehillim (Ps) 33:16
16 There is no king saved by the multitude of a host: a mighty man is
not delivered by much strength.
Tehillim (Ps) 44:1-8
1 We have heard with our ears, O Mighty One; our fathers have told us
what you did in their days, in days long ago.
2 With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our fathers; you
crushed the peoples and made our fathers flourish.
3 It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm
bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of
your face, for you loved them.
4 You are my King and my Mighty One, who decrees victories for Ya’acov.
5 Through You we push back our enemies; through Your name we trample our
foes.
6 I do not trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory;
7 but You give us victory over our enemies, You put our adversaries to
shame.
8 In The Mighty One we make our boast all day long and we will praise
Your name forever.
Shemot (Exod) 15:1-27
1 Then Moshe and sons of Yisrael sang this song to YHWH: "I will
sing to YHWH, for He is highly exalted. The horse and its rider He has
hurled into the sea.
2 YHWH is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation. He is my
Mighty One, and I will praise Him, my father's Mighty One, and I will
exalt Him.
3 YHWH is a warrior; YHWH is His name.
4 Paro's chariots and his army He has hurled into the sea. The best of
Paro's officers are drowned in the Reed
Sea
.
5 The deep waters have covered them; they sank to the depths like a
stone.
6 "Your right hand, O YHWH, was majestic in power. Your right hand,
O YHWH, shattered the enemy.
7 In the greatness of Your majesty You threw down those who opposed You.
You unleashed Your burning anger; it consumed them like stubble.
8 By the blast of Your nostrils the waters piled up. The surging waters
stood firm like a wall; the deep waters congealed in the heart of the
sea.
9 "The enemy boasted, 'I will pursue, I will overtake them. I will
divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword and
my hand will destroy them.'
10 But You blew with Your breath and the sea covered them. They sank
like lead in the mighty waters.
11 "Who among the Mighty Ones is like You, O YHWH? Who is like
You-- majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?
12 You stretched out Your right hand and the earth swallowed them.
13 "In Your unfailing love You will lead the people You have
redeemed. In Your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.
14 The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of
Philistia
.
15 The chiefs of
Edom
will be terrified, the leaders of Moav will be seized with trembling,
the people of Kena’an (
Canaan
) will melt away;
16 terror and dread will fall upon them. By the power of Your arm they
will be as still as a stone-- until Your people pass by, O YHWH, until
the people You bought pass by.
17 You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of Your
inheritance-- the place, O YHWH, You made for Your dwelling, the
sanctuary, O YHWH, Your hands established.
18 YHWH will reign for ever and ever."
19 When Paro's horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea, YHWH
brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the sons of Yisrael
walked through the sea on dry ground.
20 Then Miryam the prophetess, Aharon's sister, took a tambourine in her
hand and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing.
21 Miryam sang to them: "Sing to YHWH, for He is highly exalted.
The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea."
22 Then Moshe led Yisrael from the Reed
Sea
and they went into the wilderness of the wall called Shur. For three
days they traveled in the desert without finding water.
23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it
was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.)
24 So the people grumbled against Moshe, saying, "What are we to
drink?"
25 Then Moshe cried out to YHWH, and YHWH showed him a piece of wood. He
threw it into the water and the water became sweet. There YHWH made a
decree and a law for them, and there He tested them.
26 He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of YHWH your
Mighty One and do what is right in His eyes, if you pay attention to His
commands and keep all His decrees, I will not bring on you any of the
diseases I brought on the Mitzrayim (Egyptians), for I am YHWH, who
heals you."
27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy
palm trees, and they camped there near the water.
Shemot (Exod) 34:10-16
10 Then YHWH said: "I am making a covenant with you. Before all
your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in the
world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that
I, YHWH, will do for you.
11 Obey what I command you
today. I will drive out before you
the Amorites, Kena’aniy, Chittiy (Hittites), Perriziy (Perizzites),
Chivviy (Hivites) and Yebuciy (Yebuciy).
12 Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land
where you are going, or they will be a snare among you.
13 Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their
‘groves for pagan worship’ (Asherah poles).
14 Do not worship any other Mighty One, for YHWH, whose name is Qanna
(Zealous or Jealous), is a jealous Mighty One.
15 "Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the
land; for when they prostitute themselves to their idols whom they call
mighty ones and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat
their sacrifices.
16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons
and those daughters prostitute themselves to their mighty ones, they
will lead your sons to do the same.
Yehowshuah (Josh) 10:42
42 All these kings and their lands Yehowshuah conquered in one campaign,
because YHWH, the Mighty One of
Yisrael, fought for Yisrael.
Yehowshuah (Josh) 11:23
23 So Yehowshuah took the entire
land, just as YHWH had directed Moshe and he gave it as an
inheritance to Yisrael according to their tribal divisions. Then the
land had rest from war.
Yehowshuah (Josh) 21:43-45
43 So YHWH gave Yisrael all the land He had sworn to give their
forefathers, and they took possession of it and settled there.
44 YHWH gave them rest on every side, just as He had sworn to their
forefathers. Not one of their enemies withstood them; YHWH handed all
their enemies over to them.
45 Not one of all YHWH's good promises to the house of Yisrael failed;
every one was fulfilled.
YHWH owns everything and there is nothing now or ever has been or ever
will be that does not belong to Him. He truly can and does ’give and
take away’.
Tehillim (Ps) 78:55
55 He drove out nations before them and allotted their lands to them as
an inheritance; He settled the tribes of Yisrael in their homes.
Tehillim (Ps) 105:42-45
42 For He remembered His holy promise given to His servant Avraham.
43 He brought out His people with rejoicing, His chosen ones with shouts
of joy;
44 He gave them the lands of the nations and they fell heir to what
others had toiled for--
45 that they might keep His precepts and observe His laws. Praise YHWH.
At the ‘edge’ of the wilderness, Moshe sent spies into the land to
find out what the land and the people were like. Where we live, as a
general rule, we have no problem with thievery, breaking in etc so we are
not nearly so cautious about ‘locking up’ everything we have. On the
other hand if we lived in an inner-city setting, we likely would have
many locks which would always be locked.
Moshe
wanted to have answers to the questions,
B’Midbar
(Num) 13:18-33
18 See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are
strong or weak, few or many.
19 What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of
towns do they live in? Are they un-walled or fortified?
20 How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees on it or not?
Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land." (It was
the season for the first ripe grapes.)
21 So they went up and explored the land from the flatland wilderness
called Tsin (Zin) as far as the broad place called Rechob, toward the
fortress which is called Lebo Hamath.
22 They went up through the south called the Negev and came to the place
of association which was named Chebron (
Hebron
), where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the gifted,
the noble and furrowed sons
of the giant Kena’aniy Anak, lived. (Chebron or
Hebron
had been built seven years before Tso’an (Zoan) which was the place of
departure for B’nei Yisrael upon leaving Mitzrayim [
Egypt
].)
23 When they reached the Valley of, they cut off a branch bearing a
single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them,
along with some pomegranates and figs.
24 That place was called the Valley of the Clusters called Eshcol
because of the cluster of grapes sons of Yisrael cut off there.
25 At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.
26 They came back to Moshe and Aharon and the whole community of Yisrael
at Kadesh or ‘Holy’ in the Desert of the Caverns called Paran. There
they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the
fruit of the land.
27 They gave Moshe this account: "We went into the land to which
you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.
28 But the people who live there are powerful and the cities are
fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of the Giant
Kena’aniy who is called Anak there.
29 The Amaleqiy live in the South (
Negev
); the Chittiy (Chittiy (Hittites)), Yebuwciy (Yebuciy (Jebusites)) and
Emoriy (Amorites) live in the hill country; and the Kena’aniy live
near the sea and along the Yarden or Descender (Jordan)."
30 Then Calev silenced the people before Moshe and said, "We should
go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."
31 But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can't attack
those people; they are stronger than we are."
32 And they spread among sons of Yisrael bad report about the land they
had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living
in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.
33 We saw the Giants, the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come
from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we
looked the same to them."
B’Midbar (Num) 14:36-45
36 So the men Moshe had sent to explore the land, who returned and made
the whole community grumble against him by spreading a bad report about
it--
37 these men responsible for spreading the bad report about the land
were struck down and died of a plague before YHWH.
38 Of the men who went to explore the land, only Yehowshuah son of Nun
and Calev son of Yephunneh survived.
39 When Moshe reported this to all Yisrael, they mourned bitterly.
40 Early the next morning they went up toward the high hill country.
"We have sinned," they said. "We will go up to the place
YHWH promised."
41 But Moshe said, "Why are you disobeying YHWH's command? This
will not succeed!
42 Do not go up, because YHWH is not with you. You will be defeated by
your enemies,
43 for the Amalekiy and Kena’aniy will face you there. Because you
have turned away from YHWH, he will not be with you and you will fall by
the sword."
44 Nevertheless, in their presumption they went up toward the high hill
country, though neither Moshe nor the ark of YHWH's covenant moved from
the camp.
45 Then the Amalekiy and Kena’aniy who lived in that hill country came
down and attacked them and beat them down all the way to the place of
Devotion called Hormah.
These
men brought back reports of a ‘land flowing with milk and honey’ but
also were not willing to go in when YHWH said for them to go in and take
the land. Instead they let their lack of trust and fear to hold them
back. When they realized they should have trusted YHWH, they went into
battle in their own might, their
own power, and by the whims of their own spirit and we read it was a
dismal failure and many died because of their rebellious nature.
